Hickory, NC(September 10, 2009) -- Andy Mercer's seen everything this season after completing twin-races on Saturday, September 5th, winning one of them and falling short in the other.

Mercer and his Mercer Racing team qualified on the pole for the first of two 50-lap races on Saturday night and was poised to take home win number fourteen, but a recently familiar foe, was on his game and the two were even throughout much of the race.  However, late in the race, Mercer fell behind and was never able to regain the position heading for the checkered flag and settled for a second place finish.

"We were even there throughout much of the first race, but he got a little bit of an advantage and without a late caution, we were too even and I couldn't overcome his lead," said Mercer.  "When you have practically the same setup it's

hard to beat a guy, but that just shows that what David(Mercer) is doing is working."

David Mercer, Andy's brother and crew chief also operates, Mercer Race Car Engineering and provided the setup on the car that beat Andy in the first race.  Andy was back and ready to prove that he wasn't going to go down without a fight in the second race, but it wasn't going to be easy as there was more adventure around the corner.

Mercer started up front and looked to have the car to beat in the second of the twin 50-lap races, but when another car spun in turn four behind Mercer, his spotter called for a caution, but the yellow flag never waved.  That caused him to get freight trained as the top five cars went blowing by him before he was able to get back up to speed dropping him to sixth.

"When my spotter called for the caution, I backed off and there went the field; Once I got back up to speed I was in sixth and had a long way to go, but I knew that we had the car to get back up there," explained Mercer.  "He just made a mistake, he wasn't used to being up there as the two guys who normally spot for me were out of town, but it worked out and here we are in victory lane."

Mercer then went on a tear on the high side of the track and made his way all the back up to the lead and took home his 14th win of the 2009 season at Hickory Motor Speedway, "America's Most Famous Short Track".  For Mercer this was enough to solidfy himself as the 2009 track champion and vaulted him into a 22-point lead in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series North Carolina State Championship with only one week left for drivers to earn points.

"The car was really digging up there on the outside line, that was a lot of fun and getting the win was huge for us in the North Carolina State NASCAR points.  I knew this weekend would be a great opportunity to gain some points and with the win and a second place we've now got a 22-point lead and that looks pretty good with one week left."

Hickory Motor Speedway and the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series both only have one week left for points racing and Mercer is hoping he can capture his 15th win of the season this Saturday night and solidify the North Carolina State Points title.  Mercer is supported by Reliable Fire & Safety, Steele Rubber Products, Performancenter Racing Warehouse, WP Racing Shocks, and Mercer Race Car Engineering.
