Hickory, NC(May 11, 2009) -- Hickory Motor Speedway's "New King", Andy Mercer continued his strangle hold over America's Most Famous Short Track on Saturday, May 23rd as he won his sixth straight race.
Mercer and his Mercer Racing team have been dominant this season on the historic 3/8 mile track and Saturday night was no exception as in the 100-lap race he grabbed his sixth pole of the 2009 season. Mercer then set his sights on winning his sixth straight race and with another stout field of cars at Hickory Motor Speedway he had a tough road ahead of him.
Since making his debut in Late Model Stock Cars back in 2006, Mercer has been among the most dominant of drivers at Hickory Motor Speedway and in the 100-lap race he proved why
he was the favorite to win the 2009 championship. Mercer jumped out quickly from his pole starting position and paced the field and remained there with few challenges for the top spot.
Mercer's sixth win came in only the seventh race of the young season as he continued to extend his points lead with only roughly a third of the season in the books. Mercer hopes to continue his season of domination and with the car only getting better every week, the competition has a lot of work to do.
"The car has been getting better every week. David(Mercer), my brother and crew chief has been working really hard on the car and trying to stay one step ahead of the competition. So far it's working and I couldn't be more excited as the season rolls on," said Mercer following his win on Saturday night.
Mercer will continue his 2009 season this Saturday night, May 30th in a 50-lap race at Hickory Motor Speedway and will be busy over the next few weeks as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Cars will be in action every week through June 20th.
