On Saturday, May 9th, Mercer took home his fifth straight victory and in convincing fashion over a stout field of cars at Hickory Motor Speedway. Dubbed as the "New King" of the 3/8 mile track, Mercer is certainly reigning supreme so far this season having only lost one race this season and by only inches in the season opening event.

Mercer qualified and started from the pole position on Saturday night and kept his Reliable Fire & Safety, Steele Rubber Products Chevrolet Impala out in front of the stout 16-car field for every lap of the 50-lap event. Mercer took home his fifth straight victory driving a Pistone LTO Chassis powered by a Crate Engine and hooked up on WP Racing Shocks.

America's Most Famous Short Track as Hickory Motor Speedway is known, has become little more than Mercer's playground and on Mother's Day weekend Mercer delivered an early present to his mother, Jeanette with his fifth straight victory.

Mercer will continue his season at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 23rd after a week off this weekend and Mercer hopes to continue his reign of dominance where in six races he's won five pole awards and five wins which is just three short of what he won in all of the 2008 season.
