As the race began Mercer fell into his regular routine running the opening stages of the race in the bottom groove, this would last for about 25 laps which were run caution free. As he began to move into the top groove the caution flag began to fly causing Mercer to have to fend off several challenges from other competitors.

As the field settled back into running a long green flag run Mercer was able to reopen his lead to just about 2.5 seconds over the rest of the field after half way. He was able to maintain that distance throughout the last half of the race cruising on to his fourth win of the season.

"It was good to be able to come back after the misfortune we had last week and be able to back that up with another dominating performance," said Mercer after the victory. "Shows that this team doesn't let anything deter them, there is no quit in this team."

With the win, combined with points leader Kyle Mansch finishing in the fourth position, Mercer was able to move himself into a tie atop the points standings with 404 points. Mercer has the tie breaker advantage over Mansch with more wins on the season thus far. Dexter Canipe Jr., who finished second behind Mercer sits in third 16 points back of Mercer.

Mercer will return to action at Hickory Motor Speedway continuing his pursuit of a second straight championship this Saturday, June 12th with a 50 lap feature for the NASCAR Late Model Stock division.

Gastonia, NC(June 9, 2010) -- One week after being black flagged in the late stages of a race while leading relegating Andy Mercer to a third place finish Mercer returned to Hickory Motor Speedway looking to pick up the win in a 100 lap feature race for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks.

Mercer felt he had a strong car in practice and kept it on the high side of the track in an effort to keep the car from dragging across the bump in turn one to avoid a repeat of the previous week's situation. As qualifying began Mercer decided it was time to drop low and on his first time in the low groove all day Mercer peeled off a lap of 15.22 seconds, good enough to win the pole position.
