Hickory, NC(June 9, 2009) -- Not many race car drivers ever get the chance to celebrate eight wins in a row at any level or at any track, but that's exactly what Andy Mercer got to do at Hickory Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 6th.

Mercer and the entire Mercer Racing team celebrated their eighth straight win and did so in convincing fashion qualifying on the pole for the eighth time as well and leading flag to flag. Mercer came into the race with the added pressure of nearly 100 people in the stands at the event with his sponsor, Steele Rubber Products, who was having their company picnic at the track.

Mercer certainly gave the Steele Rubber Products something to cheer about with his domination of the race and celebrated his eighth win in the nine races held on the 3/8 mile track this season. Mercer domination at "America's Most Famous Short Track" has his competitors scratching their heads and the track looking for creative ways to make the races more entertaining. Hickory Motor Speedway officials announced that the track would begin double-file restarts starting with the next race.

"We just continue to get better and it shows with the eighth win in a row. I know the competition keeps getting better too and I can feel the pressure, but we're going to keep working because we know they are," said Mercer. "To win eight in a row is incredible, we knew we were going to be good, but we never expected to have this kind of success."

Mercer Racing will be competing for the next two weeks at Hickory Motor Speedway before the track takes two weeks off while touring series invade the track. This Saturday night, June 13th the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Cars will compete in a 50-lap race followed by a 100-lap race on Saturday, June 20th.
