Around lap 20 Mercer would make a move and put himself back into second and begin to chase down leader LeFevers using his patented "fourth groove" high line. At about lap 32, Mercer had caught up to LeFevers who had moved up on the track in an attempt to kill the effect of Mercer's high groove but it wouldn't stop Mercer as he would move to the inside and make the pass for the lead just before a caution on lap 37.
On the restart Mercer would choose to restart on the high groove and from then on would check out on the rest of the field and put himself back in cruise mode, cruising onto his seventh win of the season and with championship competitor Kyle Mansch finishing outside the top five in sixth, Mercer saw his points lead expand from 16 to 26 points with only three points races remaining in the 2010 season. "We haven't had quite as many wins as last season but we can't complain with the spot we're in leading the points with only three races left in the season," said Mercer in reflection.
In the coming weeks Mercer will be working hard to clinch the 2010 championship starting this weekend with a 50 lap Late Model Stock show on the schedule. Following that will be a non-points event for Mercer and his team as they compete for the big money in the Bobby Isaac Memorial 150 lap race before the final two points races of the season on consecutive weeks on September 11th and 18th. Big race season is also looming big on Mercer's mind as he is currently preparing another car for Martinsville in October and is also getting prepared for the Fall Brawl at Hickory and the big race at Myrtle Beach Speedway in November.
Andy Mercer will be back in action this Saturday with a 50 lap event for the Late Model Stocks at Hickory Motor Speedway. Mercer Grabs Another Win in Pursuit of Second Straight Hickory Title

Gastonia, NC(August 26, 2010) - Andy Mercer was able to make great gains on his pursuit for a second straight track championship at Hickory Motor Speedway with a win in the track's most recent 100-lap Late Model Stock race.
Mercer brought another fast piece to the track and felt confident in qualifying but was perplexed when he saw his number 10 third on the board at the end of the time trial session. "The car felt real good, don't know where we could of lost the speed except for bottoming out but that wasn't a real significant bump," said a perplexed Mercer.
Mercer made a quick move on the start to take over second place but quickly gave the spot up when he realized that Jesse LeFevers was running at a much harder pace than what he wanted to run at the time. Putting the car in cruise mode, Mercer rode in the third position for much of the beginning of the race.
