Hickory, NC(August 11, 2009) -- The mercy rule brings a sports event to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team, but unfortunately for competitors at Hickory Motor Speedway the management will make no such call even after Andy Mercer claimed his 12th win in 15 races this season.

Andy Mercer came into the 15th race of the 2009 season hungry for another win after spinning on the final lap of the race a week earlier and he flexed his muscle right from the start. Mercer was fast in practice and then qualified on the pole for the 12th time this season and it looked as if he was going to make it look easy again in the race.

"The car was back to it's old self, like it was when we got on a roll there," said Mercer. "After a few weeks of having some issues with the car, I think David

(Mercer) had this car back and it showed."

At the drop of the green flag Mercer got out front, but another competitor wanted to run harder at the start of the race, so Mercer knowing it was a 100-lap race, let him go. After riding around in second for a handful of laps, Mercer put his Reliable Fire & Safety, Steele Rubber Products Chevrolet Impala back out into the lead. Despite a few challenges during the race, Mercer kept victory lane in sight and when the night was over he celebrated win #12, a feat few drivers ever get to accomplish.

"We were good, there's no doubt that we got our issues straightened out from the last few weeks and I hope we can keep it that way, because the car was on a rail tonight."

Mercer gained a few more points in his quest for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car title at Hickory Motor Speedway and hopes to gain a few more this weekend. Mercer is supported by Reliable Fire & Safety, Steele Rubber Products, Performancenter Racing Warehouse, WP Racing Shocks, and Mercer Race Car Engineering.
