Gastonia, NC(July 22, 2010) -- After a solid but disappointing finish at the Dwight Huffman Memorial race the previous race weekend Andy Mercer and team returned to Hickory Motor Speedway looking to continue their title defense and put the Steele Rubber Products/LP Gear Chevrolet back in victory lane for the sixth time in 2010. But it almost seemed as if Mercer would not get the chance as rain dominated the early part of the day.
But as the skies cleared up a bit and the track was able to dry, Mercer and the rest of the Late Model Stock division took to the track for some quick practice before qualifying. Mercer knew he had a fast car but thought it was a bit on the tight side and would make some adjustments before qualifying helping him place his car on the outside pole for the start of the race.
